World Malaria Day 2024 Apr 25, 2024

Key facts and disease burden

Malaria, together with HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis, is widely recognized as one of the three major global public health challenges. Its symptoms typically manifest within 10 to 15 days after being bitten by an infected mosquito and can include paleness, body aches, profuse sweating, and high fever. In cases of recurring and prolonged infections, more severe symptoms such as splenomegaly, jaundice, and anemia may occur.

Currently, malaria is predominantly prevalent in regions such as Africa, Southeast Asia, Oceania, and South America. Among these regions, the burden of malaria in Africa is disproportionately high, accounting for 94% (233 million cases) of global malaria cases and 95% (580,000 cases) of malaria-related deaths in 2022. Children under the age of five account for approximately 80% of total malaria deaths in the region.

InTec continues to support malaria prevention and control

Malaria rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) can provide a quick and accurate diagnosis of malaria in situations where microscopy-based diagnosis may not be available or reliable. These tests detect specific malaria antigens in a person's blood.

For years, InTec, a global market leader of the in-vitro diagnostics (IVD) industry specialized in infectious disease diagnostics with a focus on screening at the point of care has been actively involved in enhancing public health infrastructure in Africa, exporting various POCT diagnostic reagents to over 30 African countries, including South Africa, Algeria, and Egypt. InTec offers a series of cost-effective solution for early diagnosis of malaria: One step Malaria (pf.) Test (CE, WHO PQ), One step Malaria (pf/pv) Tri-line Test (CE, WHO PQ), Rapid Malaria (pf/pan) Test (CE). Which showed great performance in the WHO Malaria RDT products testing and were recommended by International Center for Diarrhea Disease,B in Oct,2013.
